About
Joan Wollschlager, RDH, LMT, has practiced dental hygiene over a span of 30 years. In 1980, when the dentist with whom she practiced began using dental appliances to treat clients with headaches, she studied postural analysis, behavior modification, and the relationships between pain and muscle use/overuse. Coupling the dentist’s use of appropriate dental appliances with her patient training in modified muscle use through postural and behavioral changes, they were able to enhance the effectiveness of treatment and decrease their patients’ levels and frequency of pain.
Expanding her training in 2003 to include massage therapy, Ms. Wollschlager attended the accredited Carlson College of Massage Therapy. She opened Winchester Heights Massage Therapy, Inc. after receiving her license to practice in 2004. From the beginning of her practice, she specialized in treating pain in the upper body, neck and head through a combination of muscle manipulation and corrective changes in posture and habits. She conducted classes for patients with chronic head and neck pain at Sisters Health Club in Cedar Rapids, by invitation at the University of Iowa Hospital and in the Cedar Rapids area, and collaborates with area dentists for patient care and treatment.
